Bretsch House The Bretsch House is an Eastlake-style cottage circa 1890. The house was originally located on McDowell Street and moved in 1982 to the site of a former gas station by Preservation North Carolina. On display in the house are Egyptian chandeliers owned by Princess Emina Toussoun, sister to King Farouk and wife of Cornelius Beckham Bretsch. The Bretsch House was purchased in 1986 by Linda and Rufus Edmisten and Ardath and Reagan Weaver. Contemporary North Carolina art from their personal collections and on loan from Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Harris, Jr. complements the 19th century antique furnishings. In addition, the owners have commissioned a mural by North Carolina artist Tom Spleth to beautify the parking area.
